University College Plymouth St Mark & St John

STUDENT ALPHA

Student Alpha is a seven week 'Christian basics' course in the family of Alpha courses. Details of the course, including downloads of the talks and course notes are available on the Student Alpha web site. It is a 'no obligation' course designed for students who might be interested in exploring what Christianity is really about. We generally hold the course at lunch times and include a free lunch! It takes an hour a week for seven weeks and includes a whole day (either a Sturday or a Sunday) after the fifth week.

MARJON CHOIR

Marjon Choir is open to anyone who would like to join, whatever their musical ability! We can even provide music lessons! We sing a variety of styles of music and rehearse on Wednesdays at 5.30pm in the Chapel. Why not come and try us out. The main events of the Choir Calender include:

  • the Christmas Carol Service at the end of the winter term
  • the Christingle Service early in the spring term with the pupils and choir of the local primary school
  • the Marjon Arts Concert, towards the end of the spring term.

JUMP TEAM

JUMP is a team of student volunteers, led by Chris, one of the Chaplaincy Assistants, who use drama, puppets, quizes and lots of fun to take Christian assemblies in local primary schools.  JUMP stands for Jesus Understands Me Personally. If you are interested in presenting the Christian faith to children in an exciting and stimulating way then this is for you!  It is a great opportunity for aspiring teachers to gain experience in taking school assemblies.

SOCIAL EVENTS

Being part of the Chaplaincy community means that from time to time we can all get together and just have fun.  We like to organise evenings which might include board games, barbeques, chocolate parties, films, quizes, pizzas etc - everyone is welcome!
