Bishop Canon Timothy Dakin
The Revd Canon Timothy Dakin was consecrated bishop in a service led by the Archbishop of Canterbury at St Paul's Cathedral on Wednesday
25 January, at 11am.
During the service, Canon Tim, who has spent 12 years as General Secretary of the Church Mission Society, will be formally ordained a bishop, prior to being enthroned in Winchester Cathedral and welcomed as the 97th Bishop of Winchester in April.
In addition to a host of notable predecessors, Canon Tim will be following closely in the footsteps of the 94th Bishop of Winchester, John V Taylor (1974-84), who was also General Secretary of CMS prior to assuming the role.
Canon Tim is moving to Winchester from Berkshire with his wife Sally - a midwife and also an associate priest - and their two children Anna (21) and Johnny (16).
Chief Executive of the Diocese of Winchester Andrew Robinson says: "I very much look forward to working with Tim. He is joining the diocese at a time of great opportunity for growth and development. His skills demonstrated through his time at CMS mean he is ideally suited to leading the Diocese of Winchester over the coming years."
The Suffragan Bishop of Basingstoke, The Rt Revd Peter Hancock, who has led the diocese during the vacancy says: "I am delighted that Tim is to be consecrated as a Bishop in the Church of England. His contribution as a theologian, especially in the area of mission, has been widely recognised and I am sure he will help us to engage more effectively with the communities, parishes and people that we seek to serve."
